Free classic 2 abstract/concrete albums for free that definitely marked the label history I try 2 maintain since 2002 w/ contemporary/experimental music attemps, the 1st LP we made & abstractCD008/abstractLP03 that release datechas been postponed few times, here is a ten years solo project that original duration was 135 min, pushed @ 170min +
It’s had been quite a long time that some must wait 4 the physical release of strangely one of the most digitally downloaded album we ever produced, when Outtakes disbanded mainly because of impossible distance 2 continue rehearshing, played, composed new songs. Still the Outtakes tribute to the Beats was ready, in the sense that all the tracks were recorded but not mastered, the artwork was ready, the only problem was the extensive use of William S Burroughs ’s Junky, a lenghty track, overdubed w/ 2 guitars and 2 voices called ’G sunset in the interzone’, ’mexico city blues’ who was of course dedicated to Jack Kerouac was a new instrumental composition played as an encore at concerts that lenght approx. 15 minutes w/ of course improvisational parts that worked pretty well, in memory of his book of poetry, we try to keep q similar pace and express the beauty of such a book. As well we would have for author rights permission to reproduce so much writting in the songs & probably booklet of such Beats writters
As we worked and record on the new 16-tracks, the process of digitaly record so many tapes, expecting having the best sincere & technicaly take. We record so much it was amazing. Sometimes on 80min Sony Mini Disks and other time straight to the computerbon 48kHz-16 bits.
We possess an incredible stock of archives mostly burned onto DVD-R to free space on the computer. And by working onn broaadcasting station, my obsession became to have a collection of microphones, stands, and of course machines pluged to the mixing console. A wonderful reverb rack, that uses 2 reverb machines in one.Easy to program , from classic Spring Reverb to Cathedral, I had to beguan to note not only parameters but also the machines we used. We record w/ mics on amps of course plus D.I. (direct inject) boxes w/ amp simulators to have a perfect clean guitar/ double keyboards sound on few tracks of the mixing console, w/ the idea of betterment of recorded music as RIAA as it’s printed in old vinyl records. I really wanted that the band have a killer sound on tape & live events.
So here is the threat, the 525 original 120g LP copies are now gone & according to tension that appear late between the band members, that all goes for mostly differents job that made ’em earn some money, ok that’s true I insist for the digital downloads to be free (now the author society pay for streaming since the 91divoc situation). A situation that instantly killed one of my oldest labeĺ death666records in 2019, created in 1999 releasing mostly fast techno music, inspired by what DHR did : a mix of classic beatboxes , samples w/ add’l screamed lyrics and electric guitar w/ a bunch of electronic effect pedals to create massive background noise that I loved. The anarchist message was so in phase with the end of the century and we were fascinated by the energy, the noise & politics anti capitalist lyrics of ATR, so when used to play in rave parties, nobody knows or wants to ta’e responsabilty for such a corrosive and agressive music and usualy puts us at ghe very end of the line up, the perfect moment to have an power break or gazes thhrow at us because the cops wanted to stop this youth corruptive drug-warp, especialy us because it was so violent. Even me had to release ambient recordings as a therapy to ournmusic that even party goers perceve as a kind of ultimate threat ! As some before me said ’the message is in the music’ , well there was clearly a anti cop, anti capitalism message. And we usually had few moments to take out our gear because we don’t like gazes & cop technics to know if we came by chance or if in fact we organise the whole stuff
And of course to blur the lines between first & second album, which is hard to release a second album, we continue to name the sides side C & side D w/ an approximative B& W 33rpm LP, which countain also a fall from the first album, a very short track named ’footnotes to HOWL’ mastered by Harris Newman at Grey Market Mastering, a 3 min song that felt very natural & experimental where I speak Allen Ginsberg words.
So here are finaly the albums on abstract/concrete that kind of represent the evolution of the label. At first our first LP as band recording & secondly a solo project that I try to perfect inbetween 2006 & 2013, that still unreleased as LP for instance as abstractCD008/abstractLP03, which consist of musical intentions I had for the band, and ideas and composition & improvisation & live field recording that I had to record nicely on tape. At first the title song ’the end of time’ clock at 41min07 & it was pretty hard to make a coherent LP sequence that would fit vinyl technical specificity of 20/25 min by side, in order to maintain a nice sounding record LP
So to see how it sound I made three dubplates in Germany at Dubplates & Mastering, which was motivating because the three most downloadec records had an incredible sound. It was a worthy test to see perfect sound results on this format that abstract/concrete wants to produce on a first pressing of only 300 copies when this particular lenghty tracks strangely hits a thousand downloads of a 41’07” song recording w/o any overdubs in one-take rec technique. I must credit the mastering engineers that did quite a fantastic job. | Music played, recorded & mixed by MT (for Mat’s Trip , a moniker I used for quite some time when I perform alone/ in solo, even in my electronics techno releases) | mastered at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin (Germany) by : Frederic Schaffer & Rashad Becker
So I try to produce w/ abstract/concrete the release of abstractLP03 & abstractLP04, all of it mastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Services for a nice 300ex release, when downloads of abstractLP04 were 3 697 ex. Even if the release date was postponed that’s ok because I count on money given by my author right company to help artists for auto-produced albums adventures, but since I don’t get a good distribution, I don’t want to sell it by myself on Discogs or by sending to various European & North American physical stores. The CNM could also help me to produce laquers ready for a 180g RTI pressing.
